In July of 2018, my family and I moved into our new construction home in Skye Canyon. But first, I should back up and explain how we found and why we chose this community.
Our Needs Were MetWe were living in South Summerlin, near Bishop Gorman high school. The area was beautiful and we loved our neighborhood, but we lived in a split-level home, which did not work for us after the birth of our daughter. Well, it didn’t work for me, the wife, and I wanted a one-story home. I grew up in single story homes and that was my preference, by far! So, begrudgingly, my husband came on board in search of our new home. We started our search in Summerlin, looking for a newer 4 bedroom, one story home within our budget. Ideally we wanted a developed community, where we could step out of the house, and immediately go for a walk, a place for our daughter to have birthday parties with play areas, a place where there’s a sense of community with events and socials, and a pool is always bonus! To say the least, we didn’t find what we were looking for in Summerlin. The homes were either too small, needed massive updates, or completely out of budget. Now what? We either had to expand our search areas or our budget. My husband opted for the former. As a REALTOR®, I’m on the up-and-up with new communities, so I suggested we look at Skye Canyon. It was a bit outside our zone, but it checked off all our criteria, so we decided to see if there was a floorplan that fits our needs. Yup, sure enough, we fell in love with an award-winning floor plan from Pardee Homes. To be honest, I truly didn’t know how amazing the community actually is until after we moved in. Yeah, I knew there were some great amenities, but how often would I really use them? Let me tell you, we are actively engaged with the community, its offerings and surrounding conveniences.
Fit Lives HereSkye Canyon’s tagline is “Fit Lives Here” because of all the ways to live a healthy lifestyle. There are walking paths, a community Fitness area, local bistro, parks, recreation areas and Mt. Charleston is just a hop, skip and a jump away (i.e: the next exit up).
Walking PathsThe community offers walking paths throughout. We can literally step out of our front door and go for a walk, along sidewalks lined with lush foliage. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and the mountain views don’t hurt anything.
Skye Fitness This 10,000 sq. ft indoor/outdoor epicenter of fitness offers top of the line gym equipment paired with outdoor sports fields and a basketball court. The treadmills, bikes, and weights rival those found at the best health & fitness facilities. Also available to residents is a yoga area, with optional Pilates and rowing machines. I literally cancelled my gym membership when I saw what was included exclusively to Skye Canyon residents. Oh, I can’t forget to mention the juice bar, where I frequent after my workouts. Delish!
ParksParks are a-plenty at Skye Canyon. We have a park within our development, a park within the neighborhood, and an exclusive park for Skye Canyon residents.
Eagle Canyon Parkis a park open to the public within walking distance of my home. It has Basketball Courts, Soccer fields, party cabanas, and play sets for family fun. I actually hosted my daughter’s 2ndbirthday party at Eagle Canyon Park. It was lovely, having something for EVERYONE at the party!
Skye Canyon Park is exclusive to its residents and offers a HUGE multi-use sports field, large enough for soccer games, kickball and tossing the ball around, at the same time!
Skye Canyon is conveniently located to everything you use on the daily. We have close grocery, top rated schools, a nearby hospital, and short commutes around town.
Around the AreaI’d be a fool not to mention the Smith’s that just opened up in Skye Canyon. Don’t judge, but I’m going to nerd-out on this Smith’s for a minute. It’s like Target, Whole Foods and a local brewery came together to produce this delightful shopping experience! Let’s say you are hosting a BBQ. You need a new outfit, propane, invitations, party decorations, a new cooler, a variety of specialty meats and a unique cheese platter that shows your clear sophistication. And after you are finished shopping, you need a glass of wine to wind down. Done – all at Smith’s!
Mt. Charleston – literally one exit up on US-95 N. If you are not familiar with Mt. Charleston and all its activities, check
